Customs House
Customs House Museum and Cultural Center, 200 S. Second St. 648-5780, www.customshousemuseum.org. Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for college students with ID and $3 for ages 6-18. Admission is free on the second Saturday of each month.
Clarksville is home to Tennessee's second-largest general museum. It features more than 35,000 square feet of space filled with hands-on activities for children including a "Bubble Cave," as well as large gallery spaces with regional art and history exhibits.
The museum also has three classrooms, a dining room, a board room, a Coca-Cola-themed cafe, a 194-seat auditorium and a museum shop.
Guided tours are available but must be scheduled in advance. Rental facilities are available for corporate and private functions.
Other local museums
• As the River Flows Museum at the Cumberland RiverCenter, RiverWalk, 640 N. Riverside Drive. It features a 12-panel chronological history of the Cumberland River and its significance to the development of Clarksville.
• Don F. Pratt Museum, 5702 Tennessee Ave., Fort Campbell. 270-798-4986 or 270-798-3215. Hours: 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, closed Christmas and New Year's Day.
The displays, set up in chronological order, tell the story of Fort Campbell from its initial survey as Camp Campbell in 1941 until the present day.
Fort Campbell's historical artifacts will be moved to the Wings of Liberty Military Museum and Fort Campbell Historical Complex, which is to be built near U.S. Highway 41A North and Tiny Town Road. • Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, 120 Duncan St., 472-3351, www.fortdefianceclarksville.com. It features artifacts and exhibits focused on Clarksville in the Civil War era.

Robert Penn Warren, American novelist and poet, won the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel in 1947 for "All the King's Men," and the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1958 and 1979. His Guthrie, Ky., birthplace, a house in which he lived for a short time, contains exhibits and pictures of Warren's life.
